Sunfall é uma novela de ficção científica, cheia de acção e de momentos que nos obrigam a suster a respiração. Na minha opinião, é ideal para fãs de ficção científica que desejam ler uma aventura de ritmo acelerado.

Somos imediatamente apresentados a Sana Attan, que se apresenta como idealista, educada e inteligente, e cujo despertar repentino surpreende também o leitor. Dentro de poucas linhas, tornamo-nos conscientes da urgência que transpira ao longo da narrativa. 

Sana encontra um improvável aliado na sua missão para salvar a Marte e seus colonos contra a ameaça de uma grande tempestade solar - um bandido chamado Zac. Ele parece ser o oposto completo de Sana, e (a contragosto) concorda em ajudá-la apenas para salvar a sua própria pele. Juntos, eles têm que lutar não só contra o tempo, mas também as grandes corporações que pretendem lucrar com a desgraça de Marte e que faram de tudo para deter Sana. 

Ao início Sana parece demasiado rígida, muito inocente no que diz respeito às suas visões acerca mundo; por outro lado, Zac é o cínico perfeito, importando-se apenas sobre o seu próprio pagamento no final do dia. A sua verdadeira natureza é revelada ao longo da história, e achei o desenvolvimento da personagem e do seu comportamento muito consistente e satisfatório. Isto já não é tão verdade quanto a Sana, que ela permaneceu mais ou menos tão indefesa como era no início, tentando projectar confiança sem grande sucesso. Senti muito mais empatia para com Zac. 

Adorei a premissa de como e porque surgiu a missão de Sana e Zac, mas senti que a narrativa foi um pouco pobre em relação aos colonos Novus e à sua história. Eu ter-me-ia investido mais no seu salvamento se soubesse mais sobre eles. No entanto, achei tecnologia que é desenvolvida para salvá-los, Thura, bastante fascinante. 

Em oposição, a criação de Raijin, a criatura réptil-like biologicamente modificada que é enviado para deter Sana e o Thura, não foi tão cientificamente estimulante para mim - talvez uma maior explicação sobre o seu desenvolvimento tivesse ajudado. 

Em conclusão, Sunfall é uma leitura fácil mas estimulante, com muita acção, juntamente com uma mensagem sobre os perigos da ganância e da importância de manter a fé no ser Humano.

Sunfall is a science fiction novella, packed with action and breath-catching twists. I think it may be the ideal read for a sci-fi fan craving a fast paced adventure.

We’re immediately introduced to Sana Attan, who later presents as polite and intelligent idealist, whose sudden awakening startles the reader as well. Within a few lines, we become aware of the urgency that perspires throughout the narrative.

Sana eventually finds an unlikely ally in her mission to save Mars and its colonists against the threat of a major solar storm – an outlaw named Zac. He seems to be the complete opposite of Sana, and (unwillingly) agrees to help her only to save himself as well. Together, they have to fight not only against time, but also big corporations that expect to profit from Mars’ demise and will do anything to stop Sana’s mission.

At first Sana seemed too rigid, too sheltered in her views of the world; on the other hand, Zac was the perfect cynic, caring only about his own payout at the end of the day. His true nature is revealed throughout the story, and I found the development of his behavior very consistent and satisfying. This isn’t as true regarding Sana, as she remained more or less helpless as she was in the beginning, trying to project confidence but not being very successful. I definitely felt more empathy towards Zac.

I loved the premise of how and why Sana and Zac’s mission came about, but I felt that the narrative was a little lacking regarding the Novus Colonists and their history. I would have been more invested in their rescue if I knew more about them. The technology that is developed to save them, however, was rather fascinating to me.

In opposition, the creation of Raijin, the biologically modified reptile-like creature that is sent after Sana and the Thura, wasn’t as scientifically stimulating for me – perhaps a greater explanation on his development would have been nice.

In conclusion, Sunfall is an easy, stimulating read, with lots of action along with a message about the dangers of greed and the importance of keeping our faith in our fellow Men.
